Could Dragons Have Run If They Existed? (Explained In-Depth)

Ever wondered if dragons would’ve been able to run if they had existed? I was interested in an answer to this question myself, even though dragons are fictional animals.

In this article, you’ll find an answer to this question mainly based on the information we already have (like, for example, the fact that a lot of animals that live on this earth can run).

Could dragons have run if they existed? It is possible that dragons would’ve been able to run if they had existed. Especially if you would assume that dragons would be part of the animal kingdom as many other animal species we know can run as well. But then again everything could be possible, right?

Dragon-like existing animals can run as well

There are a ton of animal species out there that can run whenever the situation asks them to do so. The same can be said for dragon-like animals that roam this earth, like, for example, the komodo dragon or the bearded dragon.

There is, of course, no way to know for sure if dragons would’ve been able to run based on a few species that show some similarities with dragons but it is of course nice to at least put it out there.

Being able to run is great for catching prey

A bunch of animal species uses their speed to effectively catch prey, some by flying fast, and many others by running fast, like, for example, lions or cheetahs.

Therefore, you can imagine that this would also be a great ability for dragons to have as this ability would increase their accuracy of correctly catching prey.

Also, if dragons would be able to fly when they, for example, grow mature (like its the case with many bird species) then they could either use their wings to be able to aid in the running speeds that they would be able to achieve.

And having the ability to run would also come in very handy during their years of immaturity whilst they can’t fly.

Being able to run is great for fleeing from predators

Even though it is likely that dragons wouldn’t have many enemies if they would’ve existed in this world (apart from humans of course). Having the ability to run from other predators would still be handy if, for example, their wings would be damaged.

Once again a lot of other animal species that we know so well use their ability to run in many situations when there is danger nearby.

Many large animals can run as well

Many people on the Internet claim that it wouldn’t be possible for dragons to be able to run if they had existed because of how large they would be.

You should, however, keep in mind that many animals on this earth can run very fast even though they’re very large as well. Examples of animals that are large but can run very fast as well are giraffes and elephants.

Can a komodo dragon run?

Just like a lot of other animals that live on this earth, komodo dragons can run. This ability enables them to catch up on running prey and this also enables them to flee from common enemies whenever they pop up around them.

How fast can a Komodo dragon run?

Komodo dragons can just like many other animals reach incredible speeds when they run. They are, for example, capable of reaching speeds of up to 12 miles per hour. They, however, won’t be able to maintain this top speed for many miles.

How fast can a bearded dragon run?

Even though you wouldn’t say so based on their looks, you can be sure that bearded dragons can achieve fast running speeds. The maximum running speed that they can achieve can reach up to nine miles per hour.

Check out the funny video below if you want to see a bearded dragon run fast.

Conclusion

As you know by now, it is possible that dragons would’ve been able to run if they had existed based on the information we know about animals that live on this earth, especially the ones that have dragon-like characteristics.

The ability to run is also seen in many large animals and therefore it could very well be that dragons would’ve had this ability too.
